En été à Kustavi, petit village finlandais, le soleil ne se couche plus. Une jeune danseuse m'a emmené là où elle a grandi. Elle est venue se confronter à ce silence qu'elle a fui des années plus tôt. Peu à peu, entre elle et moi, un troisième personnage s'invite : un voleur.

Ma mère a toujours écrit en secret. A cinquante ans, elle brise un long silence et publie son premier livre. Elle revient sur sa naissance à la parole, quarante ans plus tôt. Qu'a-t-elle perdu en sortant du silence ?

 

Kustavi est un « roman-documentaire » dont le commentaire, entièrement rédigé en alexandrin, tourne à l'enquête policière. On ne découvre la dépossession que quand elle a tout emporté. Les quêtes existentielles des trois personnages se rejoignent peu à peu. Que s'est-il vraiment passé à Kustavi ?

 

During the summer in Kustavi, a little Finnish village, the sun never sets. A young woman invited me to the place she was raised. She went there to confront the silence that she had fled some years earlier. Little by little, between the two of us, a third character appears: a thief. 

My mother always wrote in secret. At fifty years old, she breaks the long silence and publishes her first book. We go back to the origin of her speech, forty years earlier. What did she lose by coming out of the silence ?

Kustavi is a "documentary-novel" whose voice over, written in Alexandrians, transforms it into an investigation. We discover the dispossession once it has already taken everything away. Three existential quests come together little by little. What happened in Kustavi ?
